So let’s make it!
How hard is it to make dalgona coffee?
The best part about figuring out how to make dalgona coffee is that it takes absolutely no skill to do so. If you can use a mixer, you can make this recipe in just five minutes.
I know a lot of people do not have a mixer and use a whisk instead. This method can take up to 20-30 minutes to get the desired consistency, but eventually your arm may be a little sore from vigorously whisking. You can get a really good mixer for under $30 here on Amazon and it will make your life ten times easier with this dalgona recipe AND you can use it to make all sorts of other great things in your kitchen.
This whipped dalgona recipe is super easy to make, even those who spend no time in the kitchen can do it. Whisk or hand mixer, its going to taste the same, one way is just going to take a little bit longer than the other.
What do I need to make Dalgona coffee?
This dalgona recipe is just three ingredients for the coffee mixture itself. I use instant coffee, sugar and hot water.
To mix the coffee you will need a hand mixer of some sort or a whisk and a bowl that is big enough such that the coffee does not splash out when you are mixing it. When you first start mixing the coffee either by hand or whisk, it is a wetter consistency and tends to go everywhere.
The Best Dalgona Coffee Recipe
The easiest way to make dalgona coffee is to combine the three ingredients and use a mixer for about four or five minutes. Alternatively, use the same ingredients and hand whisk for 20-30 minutes. You will see it turn into a fluffy mixture. Once the coffee has turned to an airy fluff, it is ready to be added to your glass of milk and ice.
Sometimes I like my coffee a bit sweeter, and will add either simple syrup or splenda once I have combined all the ingredients and have stirred into the milk.
How to make dalgona coffee with substitutions
You can substitute just about all ingredients for whatever intended drink you desire.
For example: you can use whatever sweetener you want. Sometimes I use splenda, other times brown sugar, cane sugar, and regular sugar. Just make sure to adjust it to your sweetness level.
For the coffee, you can use decaf or regular. I know a lot of people, myself included, cannot handle caffeine at night. This is a great time to use decaf and still get the same great taste.
When it comes to milk, this is entirely up to you. You are using the milk as the base for the whipped coffee. So whatever you think tastes good, you should use. Personally, I love to use skim, 2% or an oat milk, but I know a lot of people who use full fat milk, heavy cream or plant based milks. It is whatever you want to drink.
- 1 Tablespoon of instant coffee
- 1 Tablespoon of brown sugar
